IW376805 — IWC Schaffhausen Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “Expedition Jacques-Yves Cousteau”

The watch devoted to Cousteau is technically identical with the Aquatimer Chronograph. The distinctly puristic design of the dial references the look of the first Aquatimer released in 1967 – even with three subdials and a date and day display, the blue dial is remarkably uncluttered. The innovative external/internal rotating bezel with a SafeDive system designed to prevent inadvertent changes of the dive time boosts the practical use of the diver’s watch, as does the increase in water-resistance to 30 bar. The chronograph function handles single stop times and aggregate timing up to 12 hours, while the push-buttons can be activated even underwater. The engraving on the back of the cover shows “le Commandant” with his trademark woollen beanie.

Scuba diving pioneer, researcher and filmmaker – Jacques Cousteau dedicated his life to the fascinating world of the deep seas. He not only invented with engineer Gagnan, the first diving regulator, which allowed divers to stay underwater for long period of time, he also founded the Cousteau Society, which is committed to ocean research and the protection of marine life. “Le Commandant” also made over 120 films and published countless books that awakened a fascination for the blue planet in people across the world. IWC has been supporting the work of the Cousteau Society as a partner since 2004. As part of this partnership, the Schaffhausen watchmakers regularly release special editions in honour of Jacques Cousteau. These IW376805 – IWC Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “Expedition Jacques-Yves Cousteau” diver’s watches feature a trademark deep blue dial and special back engravings. A share of the proceeds from the sale of these watches goes towards the establishment of marine protected areas and the restoration of his former research ship, the Calypso.

Why buy from an authorised retailer?

The bottom line is: it will usually cost you less in the end.

This is perhaps one of the most overlooked — yet most crucial things that buyers should consider.

Official warranties often cover the movement and any major defects, which can be extremely valuable. In many cases, a faulty timepiece covered under warranty, may even be completely replaced with a brand new one. Compare that with “no official warranty coverage” provided by gray market retailers, who also often have “no return” policies. And, consider that some official service centers won’t even deal with your issue if your watch was not purchased from an authorised Retailer.

An authorised retailer can provide the assurance of guaranteed and complete coverage under the official manufacturer’s warranty. Additionally, authorised retailers generally have access to the entire product listing for the brands they represent.

There are other benefits that vary by store, city, and brand, as well as the customer. Here’s a great article discussing some of them.
